I got up the idea for this chibi around the beginning of April ever since seeing a tulip of these colors in someones garden. And I just resently got up the energy to draw the lineart and color it. I wonder if you guys can even see the tulip shaped necklace on her...she's the only chibi so far I've drawn thats wearing any kind of jewelry XD
Hitomi is a Japanese name that translates to "pupil" as in the aucal pupil of the eye. It is for this reason girls with beautiful eyes get named this, which fits this chibi since the type of tulip she is themed after stands for "beautiful eyes"
Hitomi is a bit of a diva in personality. She's flashy and always wants to be in the spotlight, and when all attention isn't on her she tends to get annoyed. She LOVES to sing and dance, she works hard and is passionate about singing and dancing. However she also has a very big head about it, bragging about her talents whenever she can.
She honestly is a very talented singer and dancer, she truly is as good as she says she is, she just needs to deflate her ego a bit. Just make sure not to get her angry...her anger is as fiery as her passion for singing and dancing.
The dress was definally hard to do. I didn't color each petal indiviually and ended up having to cut the pieces off and pasting them in order to color, highlight and shadow correctly.
When I colored her with just the basic coloring of her themed tulip it looked way too flat and boring...and as a singer and dancing...a preformer she can't look boring. I kept imagining a flame when adding more shadow and highlights since that was the best way to do the shading and stuff right. Instead of adding normal highlight which would be a lighter shade of red to her hair, I put yellow and lighted it as it went further into her hair.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This contest ends on Friday the 18th December 2009. If you want to enter, get your entries in quick! Here are all the entries so far. Also if you want to donate a prize, that would be fantastic too, just note me

Your use of mixing reds and oranges is amazing. Kudos. Usually those two don't mix well. :/ But you really pulled it off.
Also, the highlights add a sense of depth and you really get the impression that sunlight is reflecting off of her.
I also really like the idea of the tulip symbolizing her. very nice idea. ^_^
This is great work. You have a very original, refreshing style.
